Adam has just updated the biography section of this website. Until the beginning of this year what had happened to his maternal grandfather had been a mystery. In 1946 Guy Lumley Biddulph Newmarch, who had just been released from a Japanese prison camp in Hong Kong, disappeared in South Africa and all attempts to find out what had happened to him failed. It took complete strangers who by chance had seen this website and wrote to Adam out of the blue to provide the answers, not only to his grandfather’s disappearance but also to a whole chain of dramatic events leading back to a scandal in Whitby in the 1880s.
